Language Feature - IronyUsing language that normally signifies the opposite, for humorous or emphasis. This occurs in The Help when the Society Ladies hold a "Junior League Benefit Ball" with the intention of raising money for the "starving little negro babies in Africa." The implication being that the black babies won't survive without the help of the rich white women. In the same way, they give the black maids work and believe that they wouldn't survive without them. Why is this irony?
