Prepare some notes in preparation for your Connections Report
(if you are not using the Class Studied text but the text of your choice, then you will need to bring it to class to enable you to do this work.)
Writing about themeSTEP 1 - Once you have identified your theme, you need to clearly express it. At Level 2, this means using a phrase rather than just a single word...so "love" becomes "the idea that love comes in many forms" and "conflict" becomes "the causes and consequences of conflict are many and come from many different sources".
STEP 2 - No theme writing is complete without evidence from the text to prove your point. You may have to use your close-viewing or skimming and scanning skills to find the most relevant piece of evidence. You can summarise the part of the story or use a direct quote from the text to prove your point.
STEP 3 - Using a dictionary and thesaurus, write an alternative explanation of your theme/idea using different words and phrases to say the same thing. In addition, use emotive words if you are hoping to reach a higher grade.
STEP 4 - Write your reasoned explanation as to why this theme stood out for you. Link it back to words from the text that suggested the idea to you. The quote to the left was said by Albert Einstein so truly these words of wisdom will help you to write a clear and reasoned explanation. If stuck, use the 5 Why's technique.
